SOLO & ENSEMBLE CONTEST

On SATURDAY, APRIL 17th, all band and orchestra students in District 83 will participate in the annual Solo & Ensemble Contest.  This event is mandatory for all band students from Roy, Scott, Westdale, and M.M.S.  Students are NOT competing against each other–just themselves.  The judges will provide excellent feedback to all the students on how to improve their playing.

Each student will have a six-minute time slot to perform.   They will play their solo and scale(s) for the judge, and be evaluated on their performance, receiving a I-Superior (perfect score), I, II, or III.  Medals will be awarded based on results of the playing.  The judges will know which students have been playing for several years, and which students are just beginners.

The music department needs the help of parent volunteers!!!  Duties for parent workers will include:

• Posting & tallying scores and medals / Office monitors / Greeters
• Helping with cafeteria / food set-up (Kool-Aid, coffee, pretzels, judges’ lunch, etc.)
• Helping with room set-up / Room monitors (posting signs, music stands, etc.)

If you would like to help at Solo & Ensemble Contest, please contact your child's band/orchestra teacher.  You can also call or email your willingness to help.
